EDINBURGH

when you live in england and you've gotten used to the place and all of it's quirks and lovelinesses (that other people would marvel at), it's good to see things through new eyes to re-appreciate all over again those things which have become normal. so when we went to edinburgh (yes, yes I know scotland is not england, I was just making a point ya know) for four days, I got to see it through new eyes (namely this strange person's, petie) and it was fantastic. not to mention the irn bru! the shortbread! the whiskey! ok. maybe not the whiskey. as you can see from these pictures, it was coooold when we were there (but we actually got sun for four days! like. what.), so most days we shuffled out of the hotel in the morning, filled with hot coffee (and croissants of course), well wrapped in scarves + jackets + beanies (except damien because he's unnatural and doesn't feel the cold.).

edinburgh has such a different feel from cities like london or york, which is so awesome, because you can really tell the difference + see the contrast. edinburgh's buildings are very gothic and dark and the city is small (we walked everywhere!) and busy (but nowhere near as busy as london.) people seem more chillaxed there, whereas in london people are buzzing with noise + excitement. the city is surrounded by hills and gorgeous, gorgeous greenery is everywhere and woven all through the outskirts are the most ornate, elaborate graveyards I've ever seen (when I die, I want a moselem like the ones in scotland. oooohmyword.). so, for four days, we walked around seeing the national gallery, the sir walter scott monument, edinburgh castle (which me + damien didn't go in, coz we'd already been in and seen it all before!), the john knox house (we all dressed up as john knox. we had way too much fun there.), the national museum of scotland, arthur's seat (see that picture of me + petie holding hands and looking we're gonna die? yeah. we're unfit. but we made it to the top of arthur's seat. so there.), st. giles cathedral, the royal mile, and two of the best coffee shops in edinburgh (peter's yard was the best).

damien ate ten pieces of square sausage (scottish sausage), petie at four (five?) vanilla slices and I ate four duck + hoison sauce wraps (ohmygollywow) over the course of four days, so if you ever wondered whether we ate well on these trips, we do. one night, we watched fantastic mr fox in our hotel room while stuffing tiramisu in our faces (petie had never seen it before whaaaat) and gulping coffee (don't I just describe it in such an elegant way), then afterwards petie read aloud from one of my favourite books and I don't think I've ever been able to read it in the same way again (we laughed much that night).

edinburgh, I like you.

love you all.
